Another masterpiece by Jared Diamond. I very much enjoyed Guns Germs & Steel, but Collapse is simply breathtaking. While GGS is arguably broader, grappling with a wider range of difficult issues, collapse is a much easier read for the lay-person, and I found it quite enthralling. The reasons for the collapses of past and recent societies and their lessons for modern societies are brought into vivid detail, and ought to really give one pause when considering the impact of our actions on the natural environment that supports us. A must-read!
