    The Road
    by Cormac McCarthy

The Road begins on a post-apocolyptic American coast, though the exact location is never made known. The writing style attempts to recreate the rambling moment-by-moment reality of living in a world destroyed by nuclear war, and ravaged by the survivors who linger on thereafter. This is a soul-searching book that questions the nature of God when no one remains on earth to love Him. The book is a short, quick read, but equally gripping and powerful. Highly recommended!

  • Spaceclaim first impressions

Spaceclaim is one of a number of new “direct modeling” applications that use feature-recognition technology to allow the user to make edits and changes to geometry, regardless of history or parametrics. The mindset is very compatible with the Rhino workflow, and I believe that the software will make its biggest impact on the Rhino world.

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet with the SC guys more than once, and they’ve been very gracious in receiving our feedback. They are a prime example of why I love using new software from small startups: the customer service is unbeatable! more »

  • Hicks-Gibbon + Wordpress

When Nate Braxton and I began work on Hicks-Gibbon Studios, we immediately wanted to make our own products. Greeting cards, being a very low-capital product, seemed a good way to dip our toe in the waters of business. Things have been… slow. There is hope ahead, but in the meantime we’ve been in desperate need of cash.

We’ve been using Wordpress for quite a while on our personal sites, and have even begun to incorporate it into other professional sites for organizations. Then we realized that if we build a platform for the rapid creation of highly-custom looking sites within Wordpress, we could be a great help to very small organizations and business who are in need of a web presence, but don’t have the finances to have something custom-built. Our solution could be quick, inexpensive, and designed specifically for their needs.

Hence the Hicks-Gibbon Wordpress platform currently in development. We will soon have a couple of example applications available online, and at that point we’ll begin peddling the idea to small businesses and non-profit organizations.
