2004 Student Work

You know how you look back at your work sometimes and it makes you realize that you weren’t as good as you thought you were at the time? Yeah. Full project PDF’s are available on request.

Leafblower

This project was quite a bit of fun. I actually duck-taped a blower motor to my back and taped some conduite hosing onto the air outlet as a prototype. We played blower-hockey in the studio all afternoon!

I rented an existing blower and did a full photo analysis of the process, and I designed a blower that solved many of the problems I discovered. Never mind the fact that it would cost a fortune to produce… it’s student work after all :^)

The resulting blower uses a longer flex hose to allow the user to focus the leaves into a pile rather than simply radially scattering them. It’s designed with easy transport and storage in mind, and puts all controls in easy-to-read locations.

Road Talk

Road Talk was an idea for a portable communication device in your car brought to our class by an outside inventor. It’s hard to explain in a few sentences, but the idea was that it would allow you to talk to other cars in traffic. Bad idea? Absolutely. But I won the competition, and that’s all that matters!

Blocks

Blocks was my entry to the International Housewares Association competition in 2004. Think huge, soft, double-sided-Velcro legos.

Chopper

A fun project. Designed a chopper based on a theme (the Droideka bots from Star Wars in my case). Built a quarter-scale model.
